Our Roots

Douglass is named in honor of Frederick Douglass.

Frederick Douglass is an African American icon who stood for the equality of all peoples and the possibility of a better tomorrow. A self emancipated slave before the Civil War, Frederick Douglass was an abolitionist, human rights activist, entrepreneur, orator, supporter of women’s suffrage, and bridge between communities.

Douglass can be described as a Global Networked Beloved Community— A community based on, abundance-centered economics that honors and brings into reality our Ancestors Freedom Dreams.

As a Public Benefits Corp, our principles originate in emancipatory movements.

The Global Networked Beloved Community integrates concepts from Feminist, Social, Civil, and Indigenous rights movements. An integration of new technological tools with community wisdom, intentionally designed for new modern futures.
